Brief info

Rochelle Nembhard is a British-Jamaican interdisciplinary artist based between South Africa and Oaxaca, Mexico. Her practice spans time-based performance and sculpture, exploring cultural memory, generational healing, decolonisation and the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Nembhard investigates the intertwined histories of people and the earth, examining how land, material and place function as living carriers of knowledge, identity and memory. Working with the body as a site of inquiry, she brings together individual experience with collective and ancestral histories.

Her ongoing research is informed by Indigenous knowledge keepers, shaping her understanding of earth-based traditions, material intelligence and ancestral practice. This informs her use of earth, clay, stone and natural pigments as living materials that carry memory, history and place.

Nembhard holds a Master’s degree in Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture from the University of Westminster in collaboration with Tate Britain
