Brief info

Seif El Rashidi was born in Cairo and has always been
fascinated by the history of his city.
He studied economics but soon turned towards heritage and
design, starting as an assistant to Architect Ahmad Hamid,
where he was first exposed to the idea of contemporary design as being a continuum of the past. He spent a decade working
in heritage preservation for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, where he immersed himself in the architecture and crafts of the historic city. Since 2010, he has focused on the craft of khayamiya, coauthoring two books (with Sam Bowker), curating exhibitions,
and creating contemporary designs (often with Markaz - Egypt).
For the past 4 years he has been researching the work of
two Egyptian visionaries, Habib Gorgi and Ramses Wissa Wassef, and has developed an interest in the idea of creativity itself,
which has inspired this installation.
He is also a heritage preservation specialist,
and currently the director of The Barakat Trust.
