BIOGRAPHY

Mert Ege Köse, born in Istanbul in 1990, is a sculptor renowned for his mastery of metal. Over the past two decades He is known for creating a remarkable body of large-scale public artworks, and his sculptures have become part of numerous prominent private and institutional collections.

Köse’s sculptural practice arises from a unique convergence of material science, engineering, and philosophical inquiry. Employing a visual language grounded in the repetition of modular forms, he transforms micro-level structures into monumental compositions, uncovering new dialogues between material essence and spatial presence. His work probes the conceptual intersections of time, substance, and being, while exemplifying a generation of artists who seamlessly merge industrial innovation with contemporary artistic expression, developing production models that balance technical precision and poetic sensibility.

CONCEPT

Köse’s sculptures, crafted from aluminium, malleable alloys, and smooth surfaces, are deeply inspired by the ancient Shen symbol, which signifies infinity, wholeness, and divine protection. The continuous loop of the Shen symbol is reflected in Köse’s work, where each piece embodies an eternal cycle of interconnectedness. Much like the Shen symbol, Köse’s sculptures represent timelessness and unity, with individual elements coming together to form a harmonious whole. Each artwork is carefully designed, creating a balance between order and freedom, echoing the natural world’s complex and structured chaos. Köse’s large-scale pieces invite viewers into a space of reflection, much like the Shen symbol’s role in ancient Egyptian culture. These monumental works, which dwarf the human scale, immerse the viewer in an abstract experience.
