ABOUT THE ARTIST

Giacomo Cossio was born in Parma (Italy) in 1974. He graduated in Architecture at the University of Ferrara.
His artistic production stems from the pictorial desire to create a true and contemporary image of the world he inhabits and breathes in every day. The oeuvre is intended to be an accurate description of the culture of our time as well as a symbolic and poetic transfiguration of an era that Giacomo Cossio considers strongly apocalyptic.
«I believe this is the primary function of art, to make a formal synthesis of a vague and widespread feeling» – states Giacomo Cossio
«A man alone, in front of the landscape, a vegetal landscape made of potted plants. A gardener and a plant garden. Well, this gardener is seized by madness and instead of watering, pruning, taking care of himself, he shoots colored paint and makes everything the same, monochrome. This is how the image of the world takes shape: a man dressed in an airtight, inhuman yellow suit that shoots paint on the environment. A man, who over silent contemplation opts for relentless action, impact and modification. What is important here is the action on the living world. Time for mise-en-scene is over. Closing myself in a delimited space and carrying this gesture out is the way to materialize all of this. I, in the first person, experience sensations of overwhelming power bordering on obscenity, embodying a feeling of transgressing, crossing the limit, of domination. Once the action is over, the wounded nature grows back and sprouts again, the heavy and viscous varnish comes off and nature continues, inexorably. Human action passes leaving no traces.»
