February 20, 2025  — Today marked the launch of “The Paradox of She”, an inspiring exhibition curated by Art D’Égypte by CulturVator  in collaboration with Motion Gallery. This special showcase, running from February 20th to April 3rd, 2025, is dedicated to celebrating female artists and their powerful narratives in honor of International Women’s Day. 

The exhibition takes visitors on an artistic journey through time, exploring the evolving yet enduring dualities of womanhood. It reflects the contradictions that have shaped women’s experiences across eras: revered as creators of life yet marginalized in societal structures; celebrated as muses yet silenced in their own narratives; powerful in their influence yet powerless in the face of systemic oppression. 

From the sacred symbols of ancient matriarchal societies to the rallying cries of modern feminist movements, “The Paradox of She” reveals the intricate tapestry of historical, cultural, and personal stories that define what it means to be “she.” Through diverse artistic mediums, participating artists challenge conventional narratives, spark conversations, and honor the ever-changing yet deeply rooted essence of women’s experiences. 

The exhibition features works from talented female artists including Yara Hatem, Nada Sherif, Nagat El Dahabi, Rania Abo Elazm, Reham Abo Elazm, Eman Abdou, Mona Heikal, Eman Ossama, Aliaa Elgreidy, and Sara Tantawy. 

In addition, “The Paradox of She” also showcases innovative designs from the Designer Circle Initiative powered by Ulter by Valu, featuring the works of Shewekar, Don Tanani, Kahal1871, and R’kan Edition. 

This exhibition is more than just a collection of artworks; it is a celebration of resilience, an invitation to dialogue, and a reminder that the story of women, rooted in duality, continues to evolve. It empowers future generations to embrace the complexity of their identities and redefine the narrative of womanhood.

وعلى الرغم من إقتصار افتتاح النسخة الرابعة من المعرض علي جولة للصحفيين والإعلاميين من مختلف وسائل الإعلام المحلية والإقليمية والعالمية، لإتاحة الفرصة لهم للاطلاع عن قرب على الأعمال الفنية ونقلها للجمهور بكل مصداقية.

كما قدم الفنانين المشاركين في المعرض خلال الجولة شرحًا مفصلًا عن أعمالهم من الفن المعاصر والتركيبات النحتية الضخمة، ولكن سجل المعرض اليوم نسبة كبيرة من الحضور الجماهيري من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

يجمع ” الأبد هو الآن ٤” تنوعًا ثقافيًا غنيًا، حيث يشارك فنانون من المملكة المتحدة وإيطاليا وكوريا الجنوبية وجنوب إفريقيا وبلجيكا ولبنان وفرنسا ومصر والهند واليونان وإسبانيا وكندا، كل منهم يساهم بسرده الفريد في هذا الحوار الفني الاستثنائي. تعد أهرامات الجيزة، أحد أشهر المعالم الأثرية في العالم، ليست فقط كخلفية ولكن كجزء لا يتجزأ من التجربة الفنية، حيث يتلاقى التاريخ القديم مع الابتكار الحديث، ومن الفنانين المشاركين البريطاني كريس ليفين، والإيطالية فيديريكا دي كارلو، وأيضا الإيطالي لوكا بوفي، والكوري إيك- جونج كانج ، وجيك مايكل سينجر من جنوب أفريقيا، الفنان البلجيكي من أصلول لبنانية جان بوغوسيان، ومن فرنسا الفنان جان – ماري أبريو، أما مصر فيشارك منها الفنان خالد زكي، و أيضا الفنانة الكندية اللبنانية ماري خوري كندا، والهندية شيلو شيڤ سليمان، اليونانية ناسيا إنجيليسيس، وأخيرا الاسباني خافيير ماسكارو، مما يعزز التنوع الثقافي والفني في المعرض والذي سيمنح للجمهور بفرصة ليصبحوا “علماء آثار” معاصرين، يستكشفون الكنوز المخفية والإبداعات التي تربط بين الماضي والحاضر.

وقالت نادين عبد الغفار مؤسسة “آرت دي إيجيبت”: “المعرض يشكل جسرًا فنيًا بين مصر وبقية العالم، حيث يجمع بين فنانين من مختلف الثقافات والتوجهات. من خلال موقعه المميز في أهرامات الجيزة، أحد عجائب العالم القديم، يجذب الانتباه الدولي ويعزز مكانة مصر كمركز ثقافي عالمي.

المعرض يسهم في فتح حوار عالمي حول التراث والحداثة ويدعو لتبادل الأفكار والخبرات الفنية. ما يميز المعرض أيضًا هو أنه أصبح راسخًا في أذهان الناس على المستوى الدولي، حيث يبدأ الزوار من مختلف أنحاء العالم في حجز رحلاتهم الجوية مبكرًا لضمان حضورهم الحدث في مصر والاستمتاع بتجربة فنية فريدة لا تُنسى”.

وأضافت ” وصل عدد زوار النسخ الماضية إلى أكثر من ٨٠٠ الف زائر، من ضمنهم العديد من المدارس والجامعات مما يعكس الإقبال الكبير من مختلف الفئات والمستويات الثقافية، هذه الأرقام تشير إلى أن المعرض قد نجح في أن يكون وجهة دولية لعشاق الفن، كما يعزز دور مصر كمنصة تجمع بين التراث العريق والإبداع المعاصر، والمعرض هذا العام يدعو إلي الاستكشاف من خلال دعوة الجمهور للتفاعل مع الأعمال الفنية بطريقة مختلفة، بحيث يصبح الزوار أنفسهم كعلماء آثار حديثين، المعرض يطمح إلى تغيير نظرة الزائر للأماكن المألوفة وتحفيزه على إعادة النظر في الرموز والتقاليد بشكل جديد، وكأنهم يقومون برحلة أثرية معاصرة للبحث عن معانٍ خفية في كل عمل فني، وفي النسخة الرابعة، يُقدم المعرض تجربة استثنائية من خلال التركيز على الإبداع الفني باستخدام التكنولوجيا الحديثة، بما في ذلك الذكاء الاصطناعي”.

وعن كيفية اختيار الأعمال الفنية أضافت نادين” اختيار الفنانين يتم عبر عملية تقييم دقيقة تعتمد على توافق رؤيتهم مع فكرة المعرض الأساسية، والتي تركز على المزج بين الماضي والحاضر، ويتم دعوة الفنانين الذين يقدمون إبداعًا يُعيد النظر في الأفكار التقليدية بطريقة معاصرة، باستخدام وسائل فنية متنوعة من النحت والرسم إلى التكنولوجيا الحديثة مثل الذكاء الاصطناعي. يتم التركيز أيضًا على الأصوات المتنوعة من مختلف القارات لإثراء الحوار الفني العالمي”.

“This year we look to the future, while honouring our past, and staying rooted in the now,” said Art D’Egypte’s French-Egyptian founder Nadine Abdel-Ghaffar.

“Our curatorial theme is centered around play, and the idea that hope is our driving force, as we once again aim to push the envelope and present something novel every year,” added Abdel-Ghaffar.

Forever Is Now is a contemporary art exhibition that brings together regional and international artists to contemplate the wonders of ancient civilization.

The event is sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Commission for UNESCO.

In 2022, 12 artists showcased their artwork at Forever Is Now, attended by several prominent public figures, including Queen Mother Sofia of Spain, former Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg, UAE Minister of Culture and Youth Noura Al Kaabi, and a group of professional artists from Tate Britain, among others.

Forever Is Now is only the latest challenge for Abdel-Ghaffar, who has previously curated exhibitions such as Eternal Light at the Egyptian Museum (2017); Nothing Vanishes, Everything Transforms at Manial Palace (2018); and Reimagined Narratives at four sites on El-Mu’iz Street in historic Cairo (2019).

The exhibition, organized by Art d’Egypte, showcased the work of 10 international artists for the first time in the historic setting.

The renewal movement is backed by the government, institutional players, independent patrons, artists and curators who are pushing the cultural scene in two directions: The revival of a prolific past and the celebration of a promising future.

Nadine Abdel-Ghaffar, the founder of arts and heritage consultancy Art d’Egypte, said: “The world knows Egypt’s artistic and cultural past. However, they are not aware of the present, the contemporary. We aim to educate, raise awareness, and bring opportunity to these places by activating spaces and involving the surrounding community.”

“Forever Is Now” presented artistic installations against the backdrop of the pyramids, and featured Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn and French artist JR — the latter accompanied by his friend and supporter American record-producer and singer Pharrell Williams.

The exhibition sought to establish a dialogue between the ancient past and the present, and to “question time as a continuum that both separates and unites civilizations.”

Abdel-Ghaffar told Arab News that the display, which ended on Nov. 8, “succeeded in its mission of democratizing art by making it accessible in public spaces, attracting 20,000 visitors a day from schools, universities and people from all walks of life.”

In April this year, the world watched in awe as the “Golden Parade” of 22 mummies (18 kings and four queens) traveled in decorated carriages through the streets of Cairo from the Egyptian museum in Tahrir Square to their new home of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.

NMEC now showcases selections from the artifacts of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, highlighting their contributions, such as the invention of writing and mummification.

Royal mummies carefully displayed in temperature-controlled glass cases include Ramses II, known as Ramses the Great; Thutmose III, once described as the Napoleon of Egypt; and Queen Hatsheput, one of the few women who ruled ancient Egypt.

Preserving the past is central to today’s thriving Egyptian cultural scene, and lends itself to architectural restoration. Al-Ismaelia, an Egyptian real estate investment company, has joined partners in efforts to restore the capital’s 150-year-old architectural legacy established by the Khedive Ismail in the 19th century.

“Breathing life into design magic,” the company set out to preserve iconic buildings such as La Viennoise, a 125-year-old landmark built in 1896 by English architect La Viennoise, and Cinema Radio Complex, built in 1932 as the center of Cairo’s theater and performance arts scene. The center has hosted performances ranging from Umm Kulthum in the 1920s to recent acts by Bassem Youssef and Abla Fahita.

“In the pursuit of reviving a district and building of a community, some opt for politics and others opt for football. We opted for art and culture,” Eman Hussein, deputy CEO of Al-Ismaelia, told Arab News.

Aiming to transform the downtown area into an inclusive district, Al-Ismaelia linked restoration projects with a range of art and culture exhibitions.

“When you uplift one aspect of the community, the whole ecosystem is uplifted,” said Hussein.

Today, the company owns 25 properties in downtown Cairo, many of which have been transformed as co-working spaces, rental accommodation, retail outlets and offices.

Al-Ismaelia’s plans were put on hold amid the turmoil surrounding the 2011 Egyptian uprising before the projects resumed in collaboration with the government.

“Restoration has challenges in every step,” Hussein said. These range from acquiring the building from as many as 90 different owners all the way to licensing, infrastructure issues and operational limitations such as power supply.

However, she is pleased with the outcome, and said the district is benefiting from an authentic revival of the past, a contemporary flair, plus strong support for art, culture and homegrown concepts.

The movement to revive the past is accompanied by a strong contemporary cultural agenda. Today, the historic old Cairo district is home to pop-up galleries and contemporary art exhibitions.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing showcases is Ai-Da, a three-legged robot that responds to the Riddle of the Sphinx with AI-generated messages and AI-informed drawings. Ai-Da’s arrival in Egypt caused controversy after the robot was briefly detained by authorities who feared that it was a spying device.

Cairo’s affluent Zamalek district is also home to established contemporary art galleries, including Zamalek Art Gallery, Art Talk Gallery and the Ubuntu art gallery.

The three-story Adam Henein Museum in the Giza district includes a sculpture park owned by the late artist Adam Henein (formerly known as Samuel) and managed today by Inas Luca, who, as the Adam Henein Foundation director, has been “entrusted with his treasures,” as she puts it.

Henein, who died in 2020, founded the annual Aswan International Sculpture Symposium. The museum is dedicated to displaying his drawings, paintings and sculptures, including a collection previously displayed in the Metropolitan Museum in 1999-2000.

What is next for Egypt’s cultural scene? The country is patiently awaiting the outcome of the latest expeditions of Zahi Hawass, the archaeologist, National Geographic explorer and former minister of state for antiquities

Hawass has partnered with Netflix for a five-episode docu-series to be aired next year that will unlock the mystery of the death of Tutankhamun.

The world is also eagerly awaiting the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which promises to be another momentous occasion.

For a country of 105 million people and an ancient civilization that continues to influence literature, film architecture and fashion, it is evident that there is no shortage of human capital and intellectual wealth, and that Egypt is ready to enchant the world once again.

The founder of Art D’Égypte, Nadine Abdel Ghaffar said that ” Forever is Now, is the first and largest international exhibition of contemporary art to be held at the Pyramids Plateau in 4,500 years.”

The international art exhibition aims to both reflect the profound, global influence of ancient Egypt and draw on the ongoing inclusiveness of contemporary cultural practices, which is practised by both Egyptian or international contemporary artists.

She added this exhibition is a dialogue between the contemporary artist and the ancient civilization because it includes works of contemporary art inspired and intertwined with the ancient Egyptian civilization. The exhibition will be running until 7 November.

Ten of the most prominent and famous contemporary artists in the world are participating in the exhibition, Russian artist Alexander Ponomarev; American artist Gisela Colón; Brazilian artist João Trevisan; French Artist JR; Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn; Egyptian artist Moataz Nasr; Egyptian born, Los Angeles- based artist Sherin Guirguis; British artists Shuster and Moseley; British artist Stephen Cox RA; and Saudi Arabian artist Prince Sultan Bin Fahad.

Placing the onus on democratising the industry of the arts while spotlighting Egypt’s thrilling heritage, the fourth iteration of the group’s iconically famed series of exhibitions is welcoming several renowned artists and acclaimed figures including French creative JR, Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn as well as his American equivalent Gisela Colon to name just them. 

Open until November 7, the exhibition takes visitors on a tour across 11 emblematic spots surrounding the pharaonic site with grand-scale installations, breathtaking optical illusions and dazzling pieces of creative work. One in particular has managed to garner more attention than the others and that’s AI-DA’s – the world’s first ultra-realistic robot/artist who will be visiting the land of the pharaohs for the first time. On this occasion, the human-looking machine will reveal its work at the Great Pyramids in a symbolic performance where the antiquity era meets the neo-futuristic tomorrow.

Blending ancient history and contemporary art together, the project has thoroughly been supported by a large panel of partners which notably includes the U.S. and Swiss embassies in Egypt, MO4 Network,  as well as Orange, who agreed to provide full Wifi coverage all around the mystic location to enhance the overall experience of attendees. And it doesn’t end there. The exhibit also comes with a dedicated mobile app that provides information, insight and perspective on the several installations, its different activities, and Art D’Égypte’s endeavours up until now. 

Designed to be enjoyed in real life but shared online, the organisers have staged a once-in-a-lifetime event many will remember for a long-time. Launched last week by award-winning artist Pharrell Williams, we hope that the significance of the month of October will give birth to some memorable nights at the museum.

وعبر حسابه الرسمي على موقع “انستغرام”، يشرح جي آر أن عمله الفني بعنوان “تحية من الجيزة” بمنطقة الأهرامات، مصنوع من هيكل وشبك من المعدن، ويجسد فكرة وجود بطاقة بريدية أمام هرم خفرع الذي يعود تاريخه إلى 2570 قبل الميلاد، ووُضع بزاويا محددة حتى يخلق وهمًا عند رؤيته من وجهة نظر المشاهد.
وأشار جي آر في تعليق حول عمله الفني المشارك في معرض “الأبد هو الآن” إلى أنه قام بإخفاء ما مجموعه 743 حرفًا هيروغليفيًا في جميع أنحاء عمله الفني.

ولأول مرة منذ 4500 عام، يُقام معرض دولي في أهرامات الجيزة يضم أعمالًا مختلفة لفنانين معاصرين من مختلف أنحاء العالم، وفقًا لمؤسسة “آرت دي ايجيبت” التي تنظم المعرض، وهي منصة مصرية معنية بالفن والتراث

استضافت مدينة او وست ، أحدى مدن شركة أوراسكوم للتنمية مصر بالسادس من أكتوبر، بالتعاون مع مؤسسة فنون مصر «آرت ديجيبت»، المعرض الاستثنائي «عندما يلتقي الفن بالتصميم»؛ أول معرض من نوعه يضم مختلف أنواع الفنون وأفضل المصممين تحت مظلة واحدة ليعملوا معًا بشكل متناغم لخلق أعمال فنية متميزة تضفي بريقاً خاصاً للمدينة.

جمع المعرض أنواع مختلفة من الفنون، حيث تعاون المصممون والفنانون والمصورون والمصانع والمطورون عبر 3 فئات رئيسية؛ الفن الهندسي، والتصوير الفوتوغرافي، والجرافيتي، وذلك لخلق تسعة قطع فنية فريدة لمدينة O West.

وعلى هامش المعرض، تم الإعلان عن أول نموذج حقيقي من فيلات O West المميزة ذات الطابق الواحد، حيث تم إطلاق معرض فوتوغرافي مميز ل “Alchemy Photography” بها. هذا بالإضافة إلى عقد حلقة نقاشية ترأسها الدكتور فكري حسن، مدير إدارة التراث الثقافي في الجامعة الفرنسية بالقاهرة مع المصممين المشاركين لمناقشة الأفكار وتبادل المعرفة والخبرات، بجانب ورشة عمل لفن الجرافيتي للعائلات والأطفال.

وصرح طارق كامل، الرئيس التنفيذي لمدينة او وست: «يأتي التعاون مع مؤسسة فنون مصر»آرت ديجيبت«تماشياً مع إيماننا في أوراسكوم للتنمية بأهمية الفن ودوره في تحسين حياة الفرد والمجتمع، كما يعكس استيراتيجيتنا في دعم جميع أنواع وأشكال الفنون. ونحن سعداء بهذا التعاون الذي أتاح الفرصة لمدينة او وست أن تصبح .أول مدينة بالقاهرة تقيم معرض فني استثنائي بهذا الشكل

وأضاف كامل: «تم تصميم المدينة بشكل مميز، وذلك بفضل خبرتنا في بناء المدن المتكاملة حول العالم، والتي تفوق 30 عاماً، حيث تعد او وست مدينة متكاملة توفر جميع متطلبات الحياة من كافة النواحي الثقافية والرياضية، والتعليمية، والصحية».

وقالت نادين عبدالغفار، مؤسس مؤسسة فنون مصر «آرت ديجيبت»: «يعتبر هذا المعرض الأول من نوعه حيث سيضم نخبة من أفضل المصورين والفنانين، والمصممين لخلق أعمال فنية فريدة تندمج مع طبيعة مدينة او وست بشكل متناغم، وذلك إيماناً بأهمية دور الفن في إثراء الثقافة».

وشارك في المعرض عدد كبير من المصممين المتميزين، كل منهم له فنه وتاريخه وثقافته الخاصة ليتميز بها في أعماله، ويكمل بعضهم البعض، منهم: أحمد حلمي، وأمير دوس، وإيهاب مختار، وهالة صالح، وهشام مهدي، وكريم مختيجيان، وماجد ميخائيل، وملك ياقوت، ومحمد فارس، وسارة صاروفيم، ومحمد صلاح، وسارة شانون، بالإضافة إلى عدد من المصانع وشركات تصميم الديكور مثل مصنع موبل الشرق، وVeradeco، وThe Cult.
