The Cairo International Art District (CIAD) is Art D’Égypte’s flagship intervention into the streets, buildings, and public memory of Downtown Cairo, a multidisciplinary platform that turns the district’s historic fabric into a living stage for contemporary practice. Now in its sixth edition, CIAD gathers site-specific installations, urban interventions, and a citywide art walk across three central venues: The Factory, Access Art Space, and Kodak Passage.

This edition marks six consecutive years of partnership between Art D’Égypte and Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment, sponsored by Tradeline, a collaboration rooted in the preservation, revitalization, and cultural activation of Downtown Cairo. Over six years, this alliance has fostered an ongoing dialogue between contemporary art, the city’s architectural heritage, and its evolving public spaces, reinforcing Downtown as a living cultural destination and a space for creative exchange.

Titled Alive Archive, the sixth edition takes as its premise that Downtown Cairo is not a fixed backdrop but a living archive, one that stores its history not primarily in monuments or official records, but in traces: a worn stair, a café chair reshaped by years of use, layers of paint and peeling posters, a path walked daily until it becomes the street’s own rhythm. The exhibition treats these overlooked marks as the material of collective memory, proposing that Downtown’s identity is built less by exceptional moments than by the slow accumulation of ordinary ones.

CIAD’6 develops this idea across several distinct bodies of work. The World Appears in Fragments explores geography not as a fixed physical space, but as something continuously shaped by memory, experience, perception, desire, and absence, beginning from the premise that a place does not reach us as a complete reality but passes through consciousness, where it is altered, fragmented, and reassembled before emerging again as an image, a material, or a trace. Between the world and its representation exists an invisible space where personal memory intersects with intuition and imagination, creating individual geographies that cannot be contained by fixed maps or clear boundaries. Here, each artwork becomes a subjective map, not of a particular place, but of the traces a place leaves within us.

Forever Is Now is a contemporary art exhibition that brings together artists from throughout the region and the world to contemplate the wonder of an ancient civilisation through the lens created by their practices. The annual exhibition takes place at the 4,500-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pyramids of Giza and the surrounding plateau, a landscape that has become, under Art D’Égypte’s stewardship, the first and largest contemporary art exhibition of its kind ever staged there, transforming an archaeological monument into a living platform for global cultural exchange.

The sixth edition gathers French, American, Chinese, British-Jamaican, and Egyptian practices into dialogue with the plateau’s ancient authority, a new chapter distinguished by the female artists leading its vision. Where past editions have traced the continuity of ritual, memory, and unearthed narrative, Forever Is Now 06 turns its gaze toward the pyramids themselves as instruments of thought: their geometric precision, their celestial alignment, their quiet insistence that order and wonder were never opposites. Through site-specific installations and monumental new commissions, the participating artists take up themes of continuity, spatial order, and cultural memory, asking what it means to build something that outlasts the hand that built it.

This edition approaches Giza not as a relic sealed off from the present, but as a living cultural landscape still capable of provoking inquiry and imagination. By setting modern materials and technologies alongside references to sacred geometry, cosmology, and traditional craftsmanship, Forever Is Now 06 traces how ancient systems of knowledge continue to shape, often invisibly, the way we build, measure, and dream today. The desert plateau becomes, once again, a threshold where the astronomer’s calculations and the artist’s instinct are shown to have always been kindred pursuits.

The exhibition remains, at its foundation, an act of interconnectivity: an invitation for craftspeople, students, labourers, and international visitors alike to encounter contemporary art not as a closed conversation among specialists, but as a shared inheritance. Forever Is Now 06 continues this cross-cultural exchange, opening the plateau to new publics and new ways of seeing what has stood, largely unchanged in meaning, for forty-five centuries.

Forever Is Now 06 is led, for the first time in the exhibition’s history, primarily by women artists reading the pyramids’ legacy through their own practices, a gesture that feels less like a departure from the ancient site’s history than a return to it, given how much of that history has gone unauthored. Founded by Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, Art D’Égypte continues through this edition to position Egypt at the forefront of the international contemporary art scene, bridging heritage and innovation in a place built, to be looked at forever.
