Its purpose was to contain the Minotaur, the monster ultimately killed by the hero Theseus. A labyrinth is an ancient symbol representing wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering yet purposeful path.<\/p><p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The Labyrinth symbolizes a journey to our own center and back out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as tools for meditation and prayer. A labyrinth is not a maze. It has only one path to the center and back out, which is called unicursal (one line). It contains no blind alleys or dead ends, unlike mazes. The key difference between mazes and labyrinths is that labyrinths feature a single continuous path leading to the center; as long as you keep moving forward, you will eventually arrive.
